Step-by-Step Beaded Fringe Earrings Tutorial

Step 1

Start by threading the needle and picking up 2 black beads followed by 2 orange beads. Pass the needle back through the first 2 black beads, then back through the last 2 orange beads. This step is necessary to reinforce the beginning of the base row.

Step 2

Next, pick up 2 orange beads and pass the needle through the last 2 orange beads, then back through the 2 orange beads you have just picked.

Step 3

Pick up 2 orange beads and repeat the process by passing the needle through the last 2 beads, then back through the 2 beads you just picked. Continue this until you reach the end of the row. Be sure to follow the colors on the diagram, as they will form the butterfly wings pattern.

Step 4

To start the next row, begin by picking up 4 black beads.

Step 5

Now, since we are decreasing as we go up, skip the first loop of stitches formed between the beads in the first row and pass the needle through the second loop.

Step 6

Pass the needle back through the last 2 beads, and it’s recommended to also pass the needle through the first 2 beads and back through the last 2 beads again to secure the starting point of the row.

Step 7

Now pick up 2 beads: a black bead followed by an orange bead. Pay attention to the order in which you pick the beads, as it will affect the pattern.

Step 8

Now pass the needle through the next loop and back through the two beads you just picked. Repeat this process until you reach the last loop. This technique is called a brick stitch. Continue this method for each row until you reach the last row. Remember that at the beginning of each row, you should start by picking up 4 beads, skipping the first loop, and passing the needle through the second loop.

Recap of the Top Section

Congratulations! You’ve completed the top part of the earring, which consists of 12 rows. The first row is a ladder stitch, and the rest are brick stitches.

Making the Fringe

Now, let’s dive into the exciting part: the fringe! The fringe gives your earrings that elegant and dramatic flair.

Begin by selecting the number of beads required for your desired fringe length. Pass the needle back through all of them, but remember to skip the last bead to prevent the others from sliding off. pass the needle through the first 2 beads of the base row, followed by the next set of 2 beads. This step secures the fringe firmly to the base of the earring.

Next, you can start on the second fringe. The process remains the same—just be sure to follow the pattern closely and avoid pulling the thread too tightly. You want your fringe to have some movement, allowing it to sway freely when worn. The instructions for creating the fringes are provided below.
